Sverdlovsk Film Studio

Founded on February 9, 1943, Sverdlovsk Film Studio in Yekaterinburg (formerly Sverdlovsk) began as a wartime initiative to produce feature films and quickly evolved into one of the Soviet Union’s key centers for documentary, educational, and animated cinema. Over the decades, the studio created more than 200 feature films, 500 documentaries, and numerous animated and educational works, including award-winning productions like The Rivals (1950) and the beloved adaptation Privalov's Millions (1972). It played a central role in developing the Ural school of documentary filmmaking and launched its animation division in 1973. After a decline in the post-Soviet era, the studio was revitalized in 2021 under the leadership of Viktor Shadrin.
