Weird Wednesday 0711 is an alternative to the usual movie theatre programme. We seek for national and international short films, beyond the "mainstream" from old school to progressive film making.
We offer a diversified monthly framework in an established metropolitan movie theatre that includes one short film chosen from the entries on FilmFreeway to open for a curated full-length feature. The screenings are accompanied by moderation, sometimes guest speakers and get-togethers. In addition there are special screenings in a culture club downtown where we show all current OFFICIAL SELECTION films 2-3 times annually (WEIRD SHORT SLAM).
Our guests get the opportunity to enjoy iconic film gems from the past or exciting new discoveries on the big screen AND a glimpse of the international world of short films which is rarely seen in mainstream cinemas apart from the festival circuit. It's your chance to reach real movie lovers and not just the "film festival elite".
The programme is specially designed for independent films from classic genres like horror, scifi or exploitation up to genre hybrids and arthouse.
We search for the obscure, profound, fantastic and the weirdly extraordinary! Some main feature examples from the past 3 years: "Toxic Avenger", "Evil Dead (1981)", "It's Hard To Be A God", "Entertainment", "The Whispering Star", "Der Bunker", "Ich seh, ich seh", "Der Samurai", "A thought of ecstasy", "Die Hard", "Mr. Long", "Shin Godzilla"...
Weird Wednesday 0711 is interesting for open-minded moviegoers - we attach great importance to a balanced program, which satisfies both genre lovers as well as curious cinephiles. All screenings are presented in the original version with subtitles and without commercials.
For that, we give you the opportunity to send us your short films. Any production years are welcome. But please do consider: We won't show any feelgood romcoms or phony melodramas - your film should feel WEIRD or special in any way.
We would be honored to invite you into our theatre for the screening. Travelling costs will not be reimbursed, but we would be happy to help you with your accommodation here in Stuttgart and take you out to dinner!
NEW CATEGORY "Weird Feature": We're also searching for WEIRD FEATURES now! There's a more traditional festival edition of WEIRD WEDNESDAY planned for the near future and it's time we start our collection. Please mind, that there is no live screening possibility at the moment for this section but we're working on it - also depending on the quality of the submissions (hoping for good stuff!).
