The Venice International Film Festival presents international cinema on the Lido di Venezia as part of La Biennale di Venezia. Its history begins in 1932. The programme combines an international feature competition, which awards the Golden Lion, with out-of-competition premieres, Orizzonti features and short films, restored classics and documentaries about cinema. Venice Immersive covers immersive works, while the Venice Production Bridge supports industry meetings and projects seeking production or post-production partners.
The 84th edition is confirmed for September 2027. Alberto Barbera is the appointed artistic director for 2027 and 2028, and Biennale College Cinema projects are presented at the 2027 festival.
