The Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) is a FIAPF-accredited film festival that takes place annually in Tokyo, Japan. Established in 1985, it was initially held biennially until 1991, after which it became an annual event. The festival is hosted every October in the central Hibiya, Ginza, and Yurakucho areas of Tokyo.
TIFF is recognized for showcasing works from acclaimed filmmakers worldwide and is considered one of Asia’s major film festivals.
The festival comprises various sections, including Competition, Asian Future, Gala Selection, World Focus, Nippon Cinema Now, Animation, Japanese Classics, Youth, and Special Programs and Screenings. The Competition section features fifteen films meticulously selected from global submissions.
The most prestigious award given at the festival is the Tokyo Grand Prix. Other regular awards include the Special Jury Award and awards for best actor, best actress, and best director.
