It dates back to August 2022, and its office is the Hiroshima Festival Committee. The selection draws on submissions from around the world, with a particular focus on animation from the Pan-Pacific and Asia regions. The festival rests on three strands: competitions; awards for people who have made a significant contribution to animation in the Pan-Pacific and Asia regions; and an Academy programme that links animation with education. The competitions cover short films, features judged by audience vote, student and debut works from the Pan-Pacific and Asia, and Japanese commissioned animation such as commercials and music videos. The Short Competition Grand Prix is on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences list of qualifying festivals for short films.
