The Atlanta Film Festival (ATLFF) is presented by the Atlanta Film Society, a membership-based non-profit that runs screenings, workshops and other film events in Atlanta, Georgia, throughout the year. The festival traces its roots to IMAGE Film & Video Center, founded in 1976 to give Georgia media artists access to equipment, information and networking; its 50th edition is the 2026 festival.

Selected from more than 8,000 submissions, the programme covers independent, international, animated, documentary and short films, episodic work and a screenplay competition, with jury prizes in narrative, documentary and animated categories and dedicated Georgia Feature and Georgia Short awards. Screenings often include in-person conversations with filmmakers. The dates for the 2027 edition are 22 April – 2 May 2027.

Awards and prizes

Jury prizes in Narrative Feature, Documentary Feature, Narrative Short, Animated Short, Documentary Short, Georgia Feature and Georgia Short. Feature competitions usually include 6 to 8 films, short film competitions 10 to 15. Submission fees support competition cash prizes.

Festival rules

Films are accepted only through FilmFreeway. Short films run 40 minutes or less; longer films are features. A world premiere is not required, but feature films publicly released online, on VOD or on DVD before the festival are not eligible; short films available online are considered case by case. A Georgia premiere is required for the feature competitions, except the Georgia Feature Award. Student films and films by Georgia-based directors shot at least partly in Georgia receive discounted submission fees.
