Documentary film and new media are the focus of the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), whose history begins in 1988. Its Amsterdam programme combines international competitions, thematic selections and conversations with filmmakers. DocLab extends documentary storytelling into immersive and interactive work through an exhibition, a VR Gallery and live events. The professional programme includes IDFA Forum, a co-production and financing market for projects in development, and Docs for Sale, where completed documentaries and series connect with buyers, distributors and festival programmers.
The 39th edition runs from 12–22 November 2026. Its Common Ground focus programme explores community, shared spaces and collective resistance through documentary films and discussions.
