2025
Brown Cinema Cafe film series is now accepting submissions of independent features, shorts, narratives, web series and documentary films made by or about people of color from around the globe. It will feature films that showcase narratives of the divergent and dynamic stories of people of color in the US and internationally. Brown Cinema Cafe, featuring films about and by people of color, runs varous months through out the year. Our screenings this year is have been in May, June, August and the next screening will be in December 2016. Brown Cinema Cafe is held in the theatre at Intermedia Arts, 2822 Lyndale Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55408.
Brown Cinema Cafe was created to showcase films by and about people of color, and also to be a gathering and networking space for filmmakers and audiences. We have had pre-screening conversations, post-screenings Q&As and panels, and we also for every other screening have a DJ and food for audiences. There is also a Brown Cinema Cafe film club that attends screenings and film-related events. Our goal is to not only highlight great, dynamic, challenging and innovative films, but we also hope to support the filmmakers of color community in Minnesota by creating a space for conversation and collaboration.
At our previous screenings we have featured premieres of short and feature films; a selection of films from the America Now! program which premiere at the Tampere Film Festival in Finland; the regional premiere of Stephen Winter’s Jason and Shirley; and in December our program will feature the work of women filmmmakers.
