It takes place in Aosta, in the Aosta Valley, where open-air screenings in Piazza Chanoux sit alongside workshops, meetings with authors, concerts and family activities. The festival is organised by Long Neck Doc ETS, a cultural association founded in Aosta in 2016, and is a member of the European Children's Film Association (ECFA). Short films compete in age groups from 3+ to 15+, next to a feature competition. Prizes come from an international jury of film professionals and from a school jury of students taking part in Cactus Edu, the organiser's film education project for schools across Italy; the ECFA Short Film Award goes to a European short, and the audience gives its own award. The Cactus Industry Forum adds masterclasses, panels and networking for film and media professionals.
