We at the China Women's Film Festival aim to promote women's rights and LBGTQ+ rights in China through the use of films, forums, and discussions dealing with women’s issues. The CWFF works to increase public awareness and visibility of female directors, women in art, and the multitude of challenges facing women around the world.
Our organization believes that films are a capitivating and inspiring medium in promoting change. Documentary and feature films alike can bring awareness to large audiences about issues that are prevelant, not only in foreign countries that are halfway around the world, but also in their own communities.
WHAT WE DO
The China Women's Film Festival (CWFF) is the only film festival in China dedicated to women's rights.
The festival presents an opportunity for national and international filmmakers, academics and female activists to network, exchange ideas and strengthen women’s roles in the film community.
Since 2013, there have been four editions of the China Women's Film Festival. Every year, the festival first takes place in a variety of cultural centres, embassys, small theaters and event spaces throughout Beijing, and later goes on tour to different cities around China, particularly non-first-tier cities that lack resources.
The film festival is supported by UN Women. We provide a platform for people of every gender identity and expression to come together and continue the fight for gender equality. The festival’s sponsors include the Dutch Embassy, Norwegian Embassy, Delegation of the European Union to China and Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Its partners include the Chilean Embassy, Swiss Embassy, Rotaract Beijing, the venues mentioned above, among others.
