It is organised in Kyiv by the NGO Docudays together with the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union and partner organisations, with the stated aim of promoting human rights and dignity, civic activity and the development of documentary filmmaking in Ukraine. The competition has three sections: DOCU/WORLD for documentaries longer than 40 minutes, DOCU/SHORT for films up to 40 minutes, and the national DOCU/UKRAINE. Up to ten films from the whole programme are nominated for the RIGHTS NOW! award. The festival is a member of the International Human Rights Film Network and Documentary Association Europe.
