Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival

HRFF is one of the longest-running and most respected queer film festivals in the country, celebrating its 32nd anniversary in 2021. It is especially well known as a bridge from Hawaii, the Pacific Islands and Asia to mainland US. HRFF is an IMDB-qualified festival and member of the Asia Pacific Queer Film Festival Alliance. The festival uses the power of film to raise awareness, engage, energize, and instill a sense of pride and respect in Hawaiiʻis thriving lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender and mahu community. The festival is presented annually by the Honolulu Gay and Lesbian Cultural Foundation, a self-supporting non-profit 501(c)3, in honor of Hawaii LGBT pioneer Adam Baran. In light of the global pandemic, HRFF 2021 will again be primarily virtual this year. We hope that by the festival date in August we will be able to hold a select number of screenings and events in person under safe conditions, but this will depend on local conditions and state regulations. We are sad to miss the opportunity to give you a warm aloha to our islands, but safety and security come first. Our virtual screenings will be held on the HRFF website and will be free for our loyal festival audience and viewers around the world. The films will be prominently listed on our website and social media, but will be screened via hyperlink on your own Youtube or Vimeo site, thus giving you complete control over acess and viewer information. This system works well in our experience, and last year garnered over 60,000 film views over the two 2 weeks of the festival.
