Katonah Classic Stage is a non-profit, professional theatre in Katonah, NY that is dedicated to producing classic plays and serving the community of Northern Westchester County. Our mission is to bring people together to experience the greatest plays ever written. Since the pandemic is preventing us from pursuing this aspect of our mission, we have created a short-film festival to connect with you and celebrate creativity in a different medium. WE WILL ACCEPT SHORTS WITH ANY THEME, but we are especially interested in films that are inspired by classic theatre. What does "classic" mean to you? Shakespeare? The Greeks? Absolutely. What about Restoration Comedy, or Chekhov, Oscar Wilde, Tennessee Williams, Lorraine Hansberry? Are there contemporary plays that are, or will be, classic in your opinion? And "inspired"? Maybe it's a line from "Romeo and Juliet" that launches a whole new screenplay. A stop-motion adventure in the Theatre of Dionysus in Ancient Greece. A music video of Brecht. A documentary about your grandfather's love of Ibsen. August Wilson as a space opera. We are also interested in how you make art in a time of social distancing and quarantine. Our festival doesn't prioritize the size of your budget, but rather the depth of your creativity, ingenuity and inventiveness. What can you make with the resources available to you during this pandemic? How resourceful can you be? We welcome the DIY filmmaker. The festival will be held outdoors next to Bedford Playhouse, a non profit cinema in Bedford, NY.
