ABOUT THE KURZFILMFESTIVAL KUFSTEIN Since its successful premiere in 2018, the Kurzfilmfestival Kufstein (Short Film Festival Kufstein) presents meanwhile a must-attend event in and around Kufstein. Being organised under a different topic each year, the festival reflects the great creativity, curiosity, and aspirations of its organisers. In the last years, short films under the topic of “Am Tellerrand - Einkehren oder Ausbrechen” (2018) (translated meaning: at the edge of a plate – settling in or breaking out, “loss and found – vom Verlust und der Lust am Neuen” (2019) and “A New Beginning” (2020) were presented. Depending on the length of each short film, the evening program will consist of 8 to 10 films being shown to the audience. THIS YEAR'S TOPIC What is nature? Who owns it and what role does it play in our daily life? Do we actually need it or is it simply a nice add-on to our lives? For centuries now we have lived alongside and in dependency with nature. But what does this relationship actually look like? This year, the Kurzfilmfestival Kufstein is exploring the screen adaptation of the topic “Nature is our playground”. The core of the program is the examination of the human-nature-relationship: the interaction between these two, sports and other activities outside, as well as the examination of the mutual dependencies and its consequences: How does nature interact with us and how do we in turn interact with nature? How has the power structure developed over the hundreds and thousands of years we are already living in this symbiosis – can we still talk about a balanced distribution of power or would talking about possession fit more to modern times. Under the statement of “Nature is our playground”, we call for submissions of short films exploring this relationship, its ups and downs, its positive and negative aspects, giving a glance in the future, as well as in the past, convincing us of the evil lying in this maybe even toxic relationship or showing us the bride sight of the human-nature-relationship. While nature is at the centre of the program, the human interactions with it can surely vary. For inspiration next to the questions raised above, these keywords might give some guidance: Nature to be explored in combination with: - Sport, passion, outdoor activity, competition - Seasons, lifecycle, flora and fauna, climate zones/ vegetation zones - Exploration, adventure, diversity - Sustainability, pollution, possession, natural forces, human-nature-relationship We organised these aspects into four submission categories. Please feel free to interpret the categories unter the roof of the topic freely - keywords and questions should be seen as inspirational not limiting. We are looking for material that provokes, fosters discussion, questions (the status quo), is conflicting, activates, engages, responds, polarises, and holds up a mirror to our society.
