It began in 2001 as Filmtett’s birthday event and screens recent Hungarian films that have no cinema release in Romania alongside work by Transylvanian Hungarian filmmakers: shorts, documentaries, animation, student films, silent and amateur films and features made in Transylvania. Films are shown with Romanian subtitles, and the programme adds audience meetings, round tables, book launches and workshops. Since 2011 the festival has spread from Cluj-Napoca to more than 15 towns and several villages across Transylvania. The Filmgalopp competition, held since 2015, presents young Transylvanian Hungarian filmmakers and alternates between fiction shorts and documentaries.
