Its name refers to Andrei Tarkovsky’s film Stalker and the values the organisers draw from it: mercy, love for one’s neighbour and personal responsibility to society. The festival traditionally opens on 10 December, the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, with special Stalker prizes presented to the protagonists of documentary films who devote their lives to defending human rights. The competition is open to Russian fiction features, short films, documentaries up to 52 minutes and short animation, alongside an international panorama of human rights films; admission to screenings is free.
