Light Moves Festival Celebrates Adventurous Dance, Film & Media Arts. It takes place biennially in the intimate and culturally vibrant city of Limerick in Ireland. We welcome audiences, artists and films from all over the world. Since its inception in 2014 Light Moves has played a significant cultural role in Ireland and internationally in drawing together different art forms by unifying them under the umbrella of the ‘art of movement’ on screen. The festival presents works in a range of contexts from cinematic settings, to gallery and outdoor presentations. Light Moves presents feature screenings, short films, invited works and open submissions, as well as 'Studio Light Moves' facilitating workshops and a symposium with some of the most respected figures in the field. It presents a range of sponsored awards for works submitted via the Open Call that demonstrate artistic excellence in their exploration of screendance by challenging and renewing its scope and direction: Studio Light Moves is a new development initiative of the Light Moves Festival of Screendance, aimed at investing in, and nurturing, creative process and enquiry in dance, technology and screen-based dance practices. The initiative is a partnership between the Light Moves Festival of Screendance, Dance Limerick and The Digital Media and Arts Research Centre at the University of Limerick. Projects and residencies can be seen on www.lightmoves.ie The Light Moves Screendance Symposium encourages artistic and scholarly exchange, debate and discussion in screendance and related disciplines including performance, dance, film, visual arts, sound/music and text. The festival is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland and Limerick City and County Council.
