Sakhalin Film Festival of the Future “Light Play”

Dear friends! Unfortunately, the Sakhalin International Film Festival of the Future «Light Play» was canceled this year due to the situation with COVID-19. All submitted applications with films will be accepted for consideration next year. See you in 2021! The Sakhalin International Film Festival of the Future Light Play will be held on August 14-17, 2020 in the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. The main events of the festival will include screenings and discussions of films, Q&As with famous actors and directors, lectures and master classes, a business program, and, most importantly, a competition of films and videos created by children and teenagers aged 17 and younger. Light Play will continue the traditions of the big On the Edge. East International Film Festival, which in 2020 will be held in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk for the 10 th time. WHAT IS LIGHT PLAY: This is the first festival in Russia made by teenagers for teenagers. And for adults. For everyone who is interested in talking, arguing, and creating new things. Join us! We are sure that in Russia and in the world there are many teenagers who want to talk about art in their own language. In August 2019, we held the first Open International Film Festival of the Future Light Play. The first festival that we, teenagers, made for our peers and for adults. This festival has become a powerful start for us. And we want to believe that it will only get better and that Light Play will turn into a platform for communication and creativity for people of different cultures, ages, and views of life. We want the festival program to become even stronger. But for this, we need you and your work! WHERE WE’RE FROM: Our festival is held on Sakhalin Island. It is not so easy to get here. One hardly gets here without a special reason. All the better. We want Sakhalin, of all places, to become the new point of attraction for teenage culture. And we hope that this accent will be the Light Play festival. But the film festival is just the starting point. We want this platform to be the start for a wide variety of ideas. That is why we are open for your suggestions. OUR GOALS: We create a center of attraction. A new environment. A festival of tomorrow, an island of the future, the place where teenagers will gather annually to invent the art of tomorrow. We want to come up with a new form. To believe in ourselves. To show and to prove that in order to create real art one doesn't need to have 18+ rating. One must strive to understand oneself. We want everyone to understand that age is a convention. That a human being of any age is capable of many things. To do all this, we need you. We want to talk about many different things. We believe that even uncomfortable and complex topics should be discussed. We know that teenagers and adults are just people. This means that they can hear and listen to one another. We want to teach you how to debate properly. OUR PROGRAM: Films made by teenagers around the world will be selected for our competition program. In addition to that, there are several out-of- competition programs at the Light Play festival, which will include the best films made by adults about teenagers, their lives, and their problems. As at the first festival, we will hold master classes and Q&As with film stars. We want to do new things, but also rely on the experience of those who have already achieved something. As we said before, creating a dialogue and an environment is what we really dream about. That is why we will do our best to ensure that the maximum number of film authors who enter the competition come to the Festival. WE ACCEPT WORKS IN THE FOLLOWING GENRES: - FICTION (any video in which reality has been invented by you). - DOCUMENTARY (any video in which reality has been observed and captured by you). - MUSIC VIDEO (any video you shot to any musical composition). - ANIMATION (any animated video made by you with or without words / music). - VIDEO ART (any video without any plot and inspired by visual art). IF YOU ARE SURE THAT YOU HAVE GREAT MATERIAL THAT DOES NOT FALL INTO ANY OF THESE CATEGORIES, SEND IT TO US. IF OUR OPINION OF IT MATCHES YOURS, WE MIGHT COME UP WITH A SPECIAL CATEGORY FOR YOU. OUR JURY: The jury of the competition program will include teenagers interested in cinema as well as adults working in this field. We think that this approach allows for the broadest view on the problems that the films will touch upon and on their presentation. THE PRESIDENT: The Sakhalin International Film Festival of the Future Light Play has its own President: it is actor, director, and producer Danila Kozlovsky. From the first year of the Festival’s existence, he established his own prize: its winner gets the opportunity to make a film at his DKEntertainment studio.
