CALLING ALL WOMEN and GENDER NONCONFORMING DIRECTORS to the 21st Annual LUNAFEST Film Festival celebrating short films by and about women.
The 2022 LUNAFEST program will explore stories from a variety of perspectives championing the timely, yet eternal relevance of women’s aspirations, accomplishments, resilience, power, and unity.
We are seeking films with stories of women:
• Who want, need, demand, and create change
• Who are better together and unite for a common cause
• Who are growing, changing, reaching, committing, and persisting
• Who break molds, pave paths, face incredible odds, and celebrate huge triumphs
• Who have strength, smarts, spirit, and joy
For the past 20 years, LUNA has been committed to inspiring women and championing change. This fierce attitude fueled us to create LUNAFEST, the world’s first all-women traveling film festival.
Our unique film program travels virtually and IRL to over 200 cities each season creating impact through dollars raised and awareness built toward some of the most pressing issues facing women today.
LUNAFEST annually showcases the work of 6-10 talented women filmmakers. We’ve opened opportunities for more than 170 women filmmakers since 2001 and raised over $6 million and worked with more than 1,600 women’s nonprofits – with 100% of the net proceeds of each event donated directly to charity.
In 2020, LUNA went a step further and co-produced three short films with our partner, Chicken & Egg Pictures. This nonprofit provides mentorship and critical financial support to women nonfiction filmmakers.
Together we continue to shape a national platform to shine a spotlight on the women in film who dare to break through the status quo—who are determined to amplify the stories of other women and elevate the voices of under-represented groups.
Please note: Your film submission fee is donated directly to our partner Chicken & Egg Pictures. Chicken & Egg Pictures supports women nonfiction filmmakers whose artful and innovative storytelling catalyzes social change. The organization envisions a world in which women and gender nonconforming filmmakers, representing a range of experiences and backgrounds, are fully supported to realize their artistic goals, build sustainable careers, and achieve parity in all areas of the film industry.
