Motion State Dance Film Series

Motion State Dance Films Series, is the only year-long, traveling short film festival in New England devoted to showcasing the diversity of contemporary creative voices exploring the medium of choreography for the camera. By taking the festival "on the road" and into non-traditional film venues, such as art galleries, music halls, performing arts theatres, and university classrooms, Motion State seeks to expose the films and film makers to new audiences. Every screening is followed by a public Q & A with the curators. All festival artists are invited and encouraged to take part in the conversation, should they find themselves in the area of any given screening. Our 2020-2021 season began with an outdoor screening at The Plant, but due to COVID, MSDFS turned to virtual screenings and live-streamed talk backs. For our 2021-22 season we will continue to follow protocols for COVID gatherings and will determine whether screenings are in-person or virtual in early September before our series launch. Examples of past venues have included: Acoustic Java, Columbus Theatre, Dean College, Jamestown Arts Center, Newport Art Museum, School for Contemporary School & Thought, and the Zeiterion Theatre.
