OIFFA CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS DEADLINE: February 29th, 2020 About the Festival OIFFA is the National Capital’s and Eastern Canada’s preeminent festival dedicated to Indian cinema and all things Indian. In its 4th year now, the Festival is also pleased to announce that it will be diversifying its offer for the first time in 2020 with the addition of a new section called OIFFA WORLD. Last but not least, the 3rd edition of the highly popular 72-HOUR SHORT FILM CHALLENGE will also take place as part of the Festival again this year. Wishing to cultivate not only an audience for Indian cinema and Indian culture in Ottawa, the Festival also wants its audiences to open up to and welcome the various cinemas of the world. OIFFA is proud of the 2019 winners of its OFFICIAL COMPETITION, which saw Anamika Haksar’s Taking the Horse to Eat Jalebis crowned BEST FEATURE FILM. Kamakhya Narayan Singh took home the BEST DIRECTOR award for Dawn. BEST ACTRESS went to Seema Biswas for Abode and BEST ACTOR, to Sanjay Mishra for #Gadhvi. BEST SCREENPLAY was awarded to Praveen Morchhale for Widow of Silence. BEST DOCUMENTARY went to Toxification by Rehmat Rayatt and Leva Kwestany and BEST SHORT FILM, to Meal by Abhiroop Basu. A special award was also given for BEST CHILD ACTOR to Sunny Pawar for Chippa by Safdar Rahman. OIFFA also gave its very first OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR EXCEPTIONAL CONTRIBUTION TO INDIAN CINEMA to acclaimed director Tigmanshu Dhulia. In 2020, an award will also be given for the first time to the BEST FEATURE FILM in the brand-new OIFFA WORLD section. OIFFA serves as a platform for networking and promoting local and international talent. A five-day showcase, the Festival hosts a number of participating filmmakers who can mingle with the public in a festive atmosphere, including film screenings, special events and a red carpet Closing Night Gala & Awards Ceremony. OIFFA 2020 will be held from June 9 to 13, 2020, in the heart of Ottawa.
