"Les Rencontres internationales de cinéma d’Aflam" (formerly known as "Les Rencontres Internationales des Cinémas Arabes" -The International Encounters around Arab Cinema) is the annual highlight of the non-profit organization Aflam. It’s a blend of projections, video installations, professional interventions, master classes and thematic workshops that provides a platform for debate and networking between professionals and mixed audiences. The festival has been able throughout the years to implant its grassroots in the local and Mediterranean landscape and to build around it a wide variety of audiences. It creates a privileged space for cinema professionals to network with each other and to meet the public. This is a non-competitive film festival offering a wide-ranging and high-level overview of cinema in all its forms approaching topics linked to the Arab world. Aflam is opening the door to applications for the seventh edition of its Rencontres, which will take place in April 2020 in Marseille (France) and around the Mediterranean area.
Since its birth in 2013 in Marseille, France, « Les Rencontres internationales de cinéma d’Aflam » has been supporting the diversity of Arab cultures through the works of filmmakers from the Maghreb, the Middle East, and the Arab Diaspora, thus fostering a better understanding of the Arab world in its current social and political contexts in Europe. Working in partnership with local educational, social and cultural structures, Aflam preserves Arab cinema heritage, supports emerging filmmakers and promotes recent Arab films.
