Early Bird Submissions for 2022 Open in December 2021
Screen Dance International is a nonprofit organization that uses its platform to support dance filmmakers, cultivate creativity, promote dance arts, and showcase diversity in the making and screening of dance films. SDI strongly believes in using our digital platform and medium to connect cultures, encourage conversations, and provide inspiration to all. SDI supports a wide range of movement forms including street dance, contemporary dance, ballet, dance theatre, jazz, tap, animation, experimental and other forms of movement of interest to the filmmaker.
Screen Dance International partners for the 4thh year in a row with Detroit Dance City Festival and ArtLab J, at both the Detroit Institute of Arts and online. SDI connects filmmakers with audiences in Michigan and around the globe through its adjudicated screenings of dance films. Moving into its fourth year, SDI is excited to be expanding its programming.
As a Detroit based organization connected to an international community, we take a strong stand in condemning systemic racism of all forms, and support all of our BIPOC colleagues, artists, filmmakers, and dancers. SDI is open to suggestions and feedback on programming, adjudication and more in an effort to maintain transparency, honesty, and connection with the audiences and creators it serves.
Due to the impact of COVID-19 and economic concerns for so many this past year, we have reduced our submission fees for our 2021 festival. For the first time this year, we are also offering cash awards.
