The festival traces its roots to IMAGE Film & Video Center, founded in 1976 to give Georgia media artists access to equipment, information and networking; its 50th edition is the 2026 festival. Selected from more than 8,000 submissions, the programme covers independent, international, animated, documentary and short films, episodic work and a screenplay competition, with jury prizes in narrative, documentary and animated categories and dedicated Georgia Feature and Georgia Short awards. Screenings often include in-person conversations with filmmakers.
