It dates back to 2007 and is run by Studio BFM. Three juries judge an international short film competition, a Russian national competition and an international competition of animated features, with separate prizes for student films and films for children. Beyond the competitions, the programme includes thematic short film selections, retrospectives, a free children's programme, meetings and master classes, an online edition for viewers across Russia and the Cartoon Factory, where children and adults try animation techniques in hands-on workshops. Festival programmes have also been shown in other Russian cities, including Saint Petersburg, Voronezh and Krasnoyarsk. The 20th edition, co-organised with the Soyuzmultfilm studio, takes place in Moscow from 23 October to 2 November 2026.
