The organisers describe it as the oldest women's film festival in Portugal and the only one in the country devoted to Mediterranean cinema. The first edition took place in 2014. The festival is a project of the cultural association Olhares do Mediterrâneo and CRIA – Centro em Rede de Investigação em Antropologia, and works in partnership with the Films Femmes Méditerranée festival in Marseille. The selection covers fiction, documentary, animation and experimental work. Films compete in feature and short film competitions, the thematic section Travessias and Começar a Olhar, a competition for school films; audience awards, debates and the Pitch Your Short! training and pitching programme for women developing a first or second short complete the programme. Cinema São Jorge is the festival's long-standing home.
