The first edition took place in 2003. The call is open to Brazilian and international animated films, and the regulations rule out a selection process: entries are only disqualified if they are not animation or arrive in the wrong format. The programme combines short films with a few animated features, and prizes go to three works in each of three competitions – Minas Gerais, Brazilian and international – with possible honourable mentions. Some of the Brazilian films later screen in extension programmes in other towns of Minas Gerais and in Vigevano, Italy.
