Emma De Swaef

Emma was born in 1985 in Ghent, Belgium and studied"documentary making"at the Académie St-Lukas in Brussels. She decided to put her knitting and craft skills to good use in her film"Soft Plants". The short film presents the character of Willy, a chubby office worker. In 2011, she directed her first professional stop motion film with the filmmaker Marc James Roels, entitled"Oh Willy...". This film then won 80 international prizes, including the Cartoon d'Or in Brussels. In 2013, she was one of the three artists selected for the Artist in Residency program organized by JAPIC in Tokyo, Japan. Emma also works as director and model maker on advertisements for Czar (Belgium) and Supergoober (London). She gives stop motion workshops in various schools around the world.
