Dane Kira

My name is Kira and I’m a Japanese American filmmaker, illustrator, and animator from New York , currently living in rural Nara Prefecture in Japan.

Having grown up between conflicting cultures in New York City and rural Japan, I find that I gravitate towards gray areas. As a result, I’m interested in telling stories that dig for unexpected nuance. I like being able to play with different mediums and genres to tell these kinds of stories, and specialize in incorporating hand-drawn animation and experimental forms in documentary film.
