Vasily Korepanov

Vasily Korepanov was born in 1997 and raised in Chelyabinsk. From an early age he was interested in animation and cinema, popular science films and literature. From the seventh grade he attended the Chelyabinsk Regional Film and Television School, where he took part in amateur feature films and performances as an actor, director and screenwriter. He worked on the regional television program Our Time and performed in school theater. In 2015 he entered the St. Petersburg State Institute of Cinema and Television to study animation and computer graphics directing, graduating in 2020 from its Faculty of Screen Arts, Department of Directing.

During his studies he made original cartoons and contributed to institute projects including the animated documentary Lyceum Students (2017). His short cartoons include The Adventures of Billy (2013), Tortik (2016), Into the Deep (2017), Hunting the Snark (2018) and Portrait of a Boring Man (2020), on which he worked as director, screenwriter, production designer and animator. He also creates comics under the pseudonym BACR, including The Land Before The Land Before Time, Cupheads, Yotsuba and the Sect, and Void and Grasshoppers.

In 2019 he was a participant and finalist in animation project pitches at Soyuzmultfilm and the Open Russian Animated Film Festival in Suzdal with the animated mini-series project The Hunt for the Snark. His adult animated series project The Little Kingdom of Lies and Vice was longlisted for the Riki lab competition.
