Ivan Kostiurin

I am an artist and animator with a background in architecture. My interests include video art, traditional animation techniques, creative interaction with artificial intelligence, painting and graphics. In my work I combine the aesthetics of Soviet animation of the 1920s, the visual traditions of German expressionism, and an interest in archaic art and folklore. I am drawn to combining different genres and directions, the effect that is born at the intersection of cinema, theater and painting.

While giving preference to traditional techniques, I am also interested in new ways of creating images. Experiments with AI bring a layer of unpredictability to my work, and using digital fabrication methods creates a dialogue between days of the past and the present.
