Caleb J. Roberts is a queer, transgender short film writer and director from Belfast, Northern Ireland.
In 2021, Caleb became the first transgender person to receive funding from Northern Ireland Screen to write and direct short fiction.
Caleb’s two NI Screen & BFI funded short films Malcolm (2023) and Homebird (2022) have screened and won at numerous BAFTA/BIFA/Academy qualifying festivals internationally; including the 34th & 35th Galway Film Fleadh, 67th BFI London Film Festival and the Iris Prize. Both films have received UK broadcast distribution with Channel 4 for 2023 & 2024.
Caleb is one of the 15 NETWORK@LFF delegates (writer-director) at the 67th BFI London Film Festival, as well as one of the eight Emerging Screenwriting Talents at LFF Forum 2023.
Caleb’s work delivers thought provoking and authentic representation from a working class, trans masculine perspective; spanning themes of masculinity, queerness and sense of place/lessness. He is currently in the early stages of development on his debut feature.
