He began his career as a supporting actor in films such as Nip/Tuck, The Truman Show, Saving Private Ryan, The Negotiator and Man on the Moon before starring in American Splendor. "The Illusionist", "Sideways", "Knockdown", "John Adams", "Cold Souls" and "Win!" Twice winner of the Golden Globe Award: as Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film (“John Adams”) and as Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical (“Barney’s Version”).
