Jules Koostachin

Dr. Jules Arita Koostachin, born in Moose Factory, Ontario, and raised in Moosonee and Ottawa, is a member of Attawapiskat First Nation. She earned her master’s at Ryerson University in Documentary Media in 2010, receiving the Award of Distinction and the Graduate Ryerson Gold Medal. Her first feature documentary, Remembering Inninimowin, explores her journey of remembering Swampy Cree. She has directed and produced several acclaimed works, including Broken Angel, selected by the Toronto International Film Festival Filmmakers Lab, and WaaPaKe (2023), a documentary on intergenerational resilience.

Jules’ production company, VisJuelles Productions Inc., has numerous projects in development. Her notable documentaries include NiiSoTeWak: Two Bodies, One Heart (2017), OshKiKiShiKaw: A New Day (2019), and KaYaMenTa: Truth Sharing about Menopause (2020). She has also delved into performance art and is the voice of Layla in the award-winning series Molly of Denali. Jules is represented by Anna Archer at Lucas Talent for directing and literary works. Her extensive work in Indigenous communities continues to inform her advocacy and artistic practice.
