Martin Scorsese
Born in New York in 1942. Ever since Mean Streets in 1973, he has been one of the most prominent proponents of “New Hollywood” cinema. He won the Palme d’Or for Taxi Driver in 1976; Raging Bull was nominated for eight Academy Awards in 1980. Having already received the Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute in 1997, he won an Academy Award for Best Director in 2007 with The Departed. His work featured most recently at the Berlinale in 2016 with the re-release of several films as part of the Homage to Michael Ballhaus. Martin Scorsese’s lastest film, Killers of the Flower Moon, received ten Oscar nominations, including for Best Picture and Best Director.
