Mawrgan Shaw

Mawrgan Shaw is a visual artist and animator living and working in Toronto, Canada. Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Mawrgan earned a Masters of Digital Film from Deakin University and a Bachelor of Media & Communications from Swinburne University of Technology.

In Australia, Mawrgan wrote and directed with 54th Story, a small collective of filmmakers who focussed on telling original emotive stories. Since moving to Toronto, her filmmaking has developed into traditional and digital hand-drawn frame-by-frame 2D animation while also focussing on storytelling and illustration.

Mawrgan’s art is inspired by our sense of self and the intersection with our physical reality. She continues to explore these themes, while focusing on how starting in childhood and beyond, we move through and make meaning in the world.

Over the years Mawrgan has found fulfilling opportunities in the arts, entertainment and higher education sectors in both operations and education. Mawrgan is currently employed as an operations assistant for two successful community organisations in downtown Toronto, including at the University of Toronto.
