John Ortiz

John Ortiz is a Video Editor and Filmmaker from San José, Costa Rica.
His work delves into the Indigenous landback movement in his country and the intersections between personal grief and historical memory. His visual and narrative approaches are grounded in the principles of defamiliarization, self-reflexivity, and first-person storytelling. John’s career has been supported by the Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, the UC Santa Cruz Arts Research Institute, and the UC Santa Cruz Center for Economic Justice and Action.
