Ivars Seleckis

Graduated from the Academy of Agriculture in 1957 and the State Institute of cinematography, the Photography Faculty in Moscow in 1966 with distinction.
He worked at Riga Film Studio since 1958 - at the beginning as an assistant cameraman, director of photography and from 1968-1998 as a film director. Both in Latvia and international festivals his documentaries have been noted for their thorough and sophisticated analysis of the social processes.
In 1967 he was awarded the state Prize of Latvian SSR and the Prize of the YCL of Latvia (1974)
In 1975 he was awarded the title of the Merrited Master of the Arts, in 1987 - the title of the People’s Artist of Latvia.
His film“Crossroad Street” was recognized as the most remarkable documentary of the Europe in 1990 and the prize “Felix” was confered to it.
There are hardly any films in the documentary world that would have received the prestige Jorisa Ivensa, Flaherty and Felix prizes. If there are such a films, it would be nice to establish a club of those...
