Icíar Bollaín

Iciar Bollaín was born in Madrid in 1967. She began her career in the world of film as an actress appearing in pictures such as BAD LUCK (1989) by Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, and LAND AND FREEDOM (1994) by Ken Loach. As a director, Iciar started out shooting several short films which marked her debut in this facet of her career. Her first feature film was to be HI, ARE YOU ALONE? (1995), followed by FLOWERS FROM ANOTHER WORLD (1999), which saw her win the Mercedes- Benz Prize at the Cannes FF. She then went on to direct one of her biggest hits TAKE MY EYES (2003), winner of Goya Awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay at Spain’s national film awards. In 2006, Iciar Bollaín set up CIMA, an association of women film & television practitioners, along with other female film-makers. Her works include pictures such as MATAHARIS (2007); EVEN THE RAIN (2010) which won the Ariel Prize for Best Iberoamerican Film; and KATHMANDU LULLABY (2011). Iciar Bollain followed on from these successes with IN FOREIGN LAND (2014) a documentary film about Spanish immigrants in Scotland. She reverted to fiction with THE OLIVE TREE (2016). Her latest film ROSA’S WEDDING (2020) won the Special Jury Prize and Silver Biznaga for Best Supporting Actress at Malaga Festival.
