Emma Emily Daelman

Brussels based filmmaker Emma Daelman explores film in its various forms. The past years she put a particular focus on stop-motion. Her journey as a filmmaker hasn’t been exactly linear. After a degree in Economics and Finance at UGent Emma did a full 180 to pursue her passion for film and animation at Ritcs. Apart from her formal education, Emma had the privilege of learning the ropes as a production assistant at Beast Animation and Lumière.

Her bachelor film “So Sick” and her master film “Oxide” are both testament to the strong theoretical framework, palpable in all Emma's work. Psychoanalysis, political theory, philosophy allow her to distance herself from personal experience and the subject/enigma she aims to solve. As this process unfolds this gap is bridged, and so slowly the theoretical becomes the personal.

Though her enthusiasm for stop-motion remains strong still, Emma prefers not to limit herself to this single medium. Depending on the project/problem she enjoys experimenting with form. Allowing her to explore projects from live-action to video installation.
