Carey Mulligan to Receive International Star Award, Actress at Palm Springs Film Awards
The Palm Springs International Film Society has announced that Carey Mulligan will be the recipient of the International Star Award, Actress for her portrayal of Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein in Bradley Cooper’s Maestro. The Film Awards will be held on January 4, 2024, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, as part of the festival that will last until January 15, 2024. The event is sponsored by Entertainment Tonight and IHG Hotels & Resorts.
“Carey Mulligan delivers a stunning role as Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, the wife of legendary composer Leonard Bernstein, in this historical and personal film that explores the highs and lows of true love and artistic passion,” said Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi. “We are delighted to honor Carey Mulligan with the International Star Award, Actress for her remarkable contribution to world cinema.”
Mulligan joins other honorees of this year’s Film Awards, such as Emma Stone (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress), Cillian Murphy (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor), Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Breakthrough Performance Award), Greta Gerwig (Director of the Year), Jeffrey Wright (Career Achievement Award) and Killers of the Flower Moon (Vanguard Award). Previous winners of the International Star Award, Actress include Michelle Yeoh, Penélope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Helen Mirren, Saoirse Ronan and Charlize Theron. Michelle Yeoh won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once, while Cruz (Parallel Mothers) and Ronan (Lady Bird) were both nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress in their respective years.
Maestro is a film that chronicles the lifelong relationship between Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, a love story that celebrates life and art. Maestro features performances from Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan, as well as Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, Sarah Silverman, Josh Hamilton, Scott Ellis, Gideon Glick, Sam Nivola, Alexa Swinton, and Miriam Shor. The film will be released by Netflix.
Carey Mulligan is an Academy Award-nominated actress who rose to fame with her starring role in An Education, which earned her the BAFTA Award for Best Actress and nominations for an Academy Award and SAG Award. Mulligan was nominated for her second Oscar in the Lead Actress category for her performance in Emerald Fennell’s directorial debut Promising Young Woman. She also received awards from the Critics’ Choice Association, the Film Independent Spirit Awards, the National Board of Review, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association and over 20 critics groups around the country.
