In a significant development, the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) is set to have a new director as Tricia Tuttle, the recent director of the BFI London Film Festival, steps into the role from April 2024. The Board of Supervisors of the Kulturveranstaltungen des Bundes in Berlin GmbH (KBB) approved the selection committee's proposal, citing Tuttle's extensive experience in film and film festivals.

Currently serving as the Head of Directing Fiction at the National Film and TV School in the UK, Tricia Tuttle is known for her transformative leadership during her five-year stint as the director of the London Film Festival. Her achievements include repositioning the festival, incorporating sections on series television and immersive cinema, and enhancing audience engagement through digital access.

Minister of State for Culture and the Media Claudia Roth praised Tuttle's 25 years of film experience, citing her success in increasing audience numbers and elevating the international profile of the BFI London Film Festival. Roth expressed confidence in Tuttle's ability to lead Berlinale into a successful future, emphasizing her clear ideas on artistic perspectives, team-oriented festival management, and sustainable support for young talent.

Tuttle, who holds a Masters in Film Studies from the British Film Institute and Birkbeck University, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Radio, Television, and Motion Pictures from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will officially take over the directorship from April 1, 2024. The upcoming Berlinale in 2024 will continue under the direction of Carlo Chatrian and Mariëtte Rissenbeek.
