Record-Breaking Attendance at Whistler Film Festival 2023: Over 13,000 Attendees Mark a New High

The Whistler Film Festival (WFF) 2023 has made a remarkable entry into the records, achieving an all-time high in attendance and setting new benchmarks in its 23-year history. Held from November 29 to December 3, with extended virtual screenings until December 17, the festival became a focal point for film enthusiasts, industry professionals, and artists alike.

This year's edition saw an unprecedented attendance of 13,013, marking a 14% increase from 2022 and surpassing the pre-pandemic figures by 5%. Among these were 8,027 film-screening attendees, a significant 25% rise from the previous year, underscoring the festival's growing appeal. The geographic diversity of the audience was notable, with a substantial 25.5% coming from Manitoba, and a noteworthy international presence.

In terms of film premieres, WFF 2023 outdid itself by showcasing 29 world premieres, a 134% increase from the previous year. The festival's lineup included 98 films, with a significant portion being Canadian premieres - 23 feature films and 48 shorts. This selection not only highlighted the festival’s dedication to Canadian cinema but also attracted a broad audience eager for innovative and diverse content.

The Talent Programs at WFF witnessed a 52% increase in participants, emphasizing the festival's role in fostering Canadian artistic talent. Over 82 Canadian artists benefited from these programs, gaining invaluable exposure and development opportunities. Concurrently, the Content Summit attracted 2,211 industry attendees, facilitating essential networking and discussions among key film industry players.
