Diversity Takes Center Stage at Animac 2024 with Rocío Álvarez’s Art
The 28th edition of Animac, the International Animation Film Festival of Catalonia, organized by the Lleida City Council, is scheduled from February 15 to 18, 2024. This year's festival theme is diversity in animated cinema, aptly represented by the event's poster and animated face, created by Valencian illustrator and animator Rocio Alvarez.
This edition received a significant response, with 562 films submitted from 53 countries. A notable portion of the submissions, 231 films, originated from animation schools, underscoring Animac's role in showcasing emerging talent. Spain, France, the United States, and Belgium were among the top contributors.
The festival director, Carolina López, highlighted the importance of diversity in animation, noting its capacity to address various themes creatively. Animated cinema's influence extends beyond entertainment, offering unique perspectives on issues like gender, status, and cultural representation.
Rocio Álvarez, tasked with creating the festival's poster for the second consecutive year, shared her vision of incorporating diverse elements into her work.
