The 2024 Sundance Film Festival, held in Park City, Utah, recently announced the winners of its Short Film Jury Awards, highlighting a diverse and innovative selection of short films. Alex Lora Cercos' film "The Masterpiece" received the Short Film Grand Jury Prize, standing out among 53 shorts selected from over 12,000 submissions. This Spanish production tells the story of a wealthy couple's encounter with two immigrants, leading to an unexpected twist.

The Short Film Jury Award for U.S. Fiction went to Kate Jean Hollowell's "Say Hi After You Die," a unique exploration of grief and friendship. Meanwhile, "The Stag," directed by An Chu from Taiwan, earned the International Fiction award, providing a poignant look at a father's dilemma in front of his children.

In the Nonfiction category, Jack Dunphy's "Bob's Funeral" was recognized for its personal and introspective take on family and generational trauma. The Animation award was presented to Phoebe Jane Hart for "Bug Diner," a humorous and imaginative tale set in a diner run by insects.

Special Jury Prizes for Directing were awarded to Masha Ko for "The Looming," a suspenseful narrative involving a virtual home assistant, and Makoto Nagahisa for "Pisko the Crab Child is in Love," a whimsical story about love and acceptance beyond differences.
