Animac 2024 Unveils Program with Georges Schwizgebel at CCCB

Animac, the International Animation Film Festival of Catalonia, is gearing up for its 28th edition with a special focus on diversity. The festival will take place in Lleida from February 15 to 18, 2024, and is set to feature the renowned Swiss animator Georges Schwizgebel.

The presentation of Animac 2024 will be held at the CCCB in Barcelona on February 6, where Carolina López, the festival's director, will outline the contents of this year's festival. Joining her is Georges Schwizgebel, a highly respected figure in European animation and the recipient of the Animac 2022 honorary prize.

Schwizgebel is celebrated for his unique approach to animation, combining hand drawing and acrylic painting on acetate. His work is known for its experimental flair and vivid color schemes, reminiscent of post-impressionist art. At the festival, Schwizgebel will delve into his career spanning over five decades, providing insights into his directorial and animating techniques. He will also discuss his creative process, showcasing materials from his works, including his most recent creation, "D’une peinture… à l’ autre".

The program at the CCCB includes a masterclass by Schwizgebel, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. During this session, he will exhibit his process through materials and fragments of his films. The masterclass will also feature screenings of his short films "ZigZag", "Jeu", and "D’une peinture… à l’autre". The latter is a journey through art, exploring two paintings on the same subject created half a century apart.

This year's Animac promises to be a significant event for animation enthusiasts, offering a rare opportunity to learn from one of the masters of the craft and to explore the diverse world of animation.
