Across Continents and Genres: Anifilm 2024’s Competing Films Announced

In the Student Films category, 26 films from film schools around the world, including Europe, Japan, China, and the USA, have been selected. Noteworthy Czech entries include "Between City" by Ilya Kreines (Academy of Arts, Architecture & Design in Prague), "Keep Out" by Tan-Lui Chan (Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Arts), and "Electra" by Daria Kascheeva (FAMU). This category underscores the festival's dedication to fostering new talent in the animation field.

The Short Films competition features 28 entries, presenting a broad spectrum of animated styles, genres, themes, and techniques. It includes new works by renowned artists such as Nina Gantz, Kaspar Jancis, Tomek Popakul, Georges Schwizgebel, Flóra Anna Buda, and Don Hertzfeldt, showcasing the festival's ability to attract established names in the industry.

For music enthusiasts, the Music Videos category offers a collection of 25 videos, spanning a wide range of musical and visual styles. Czech music is represented by Michaela Dušková's "A tak to necháme" and Matej Mihályi's "Lunapark," highlighting the diversity of the country's musical landscape.

Lastly, the Competition of Abstract and Non-narrative Animation features 22 films that explore the boundaries of animation through traditional and high-tech production techniques. Czech entries in this category include "Individuality" by Bára Holzknechtová and "Time Metallurgist" by Tomáš Rampula, demonstrating the festival's commitment to showcasing innovative and experimental works.
