The poster features a female figure, representing strength and grace, who dances and sings in homage to the unsung heroines of Portugal. Pessoa incorporated symbols such as the fado and red carnations, the latter commemorating the 50th anniversary of Portugal's democratic revolution, to weave a narrative of resilience and celebration.
Marcel Jean, the Artistic Director of the Annecy Festival, remarked on the special bond the festival shares with Pessoa, noting her previous contributions and accomplishments within the animation community. Having collaborated on the festival’s poster in 2015 and celebrated her numerous accolades over the years, inviting Pessoa to design the 2024 poster was a natural choice that highlights Portugal's guest status.
Regina Pessoa was born in Coimbra, Portugal, in 1969 and has established herself as a significant voice in animation through her innovative use of animated engraving techniques and a distinctive narrative style. Her films, such as "The Night," "Tragic Story with Happy Ending," "Kali the Little Vampire," and "Uncle Thomas – Accounting for the Days," have garnered international acclaim, earning prestigious awards like the Annecy Cristal and the Annie Award for Best Animated Short Subject.
