Short Summary:

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival has announced its Official Selection of short films for 2024. Out of 1,505 submissions from 108 countries, 67 films from 33 countries have been selected to compete across four categories: Official, Off-Limits, Perspectives, and Young Audiences. The festival will take place from June 9th to 15th in Annecy, France.

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival, set to take place from June 9th to 15th, 2024, has disclosed the first part of its Official Selection for the upcoming edition. Highlighting a significant aspect of the global animation landscape, the festival's selection committee sifted through 1,505 submissions from 108 countries, ultimately choosing 67 films from 33 countries for competition.

The selected short films are distributed across four distinct categories, reflecting the diversity and scope of the animation genre. These include 31 films in the Official competition category, 12 in the Off-Limits category, 16 in the Perspectives category, and 8 in the Young Audiences category. This structure accommodates a wide range of animation styles and narratives, from the experimental to those tailored for younger viewers.

Marcel Jean, the Artistic Director of the Annecy Festival, commented on the selection, noting a continued trend towards longer short films, which has impacted the historically low number of films selected for the Official Competition and Perspectives section. He also highlighted the festival's commitment to gender parity, achieved for the third consecutive year, and pointed out the strong showing by French productions and co-productions in the Young Audiences section.

Notable among the Off-Limits selections are works by Nicolas Brault, Max Hattler, and Moïa Jobin-Paré, all previous winners in this category, underscoring the festival's role in celebrating established talents alongside emerging voices in animation.

The festival organizers encourage those interested in the world of animation to secure their accreditation now, in anticipation of a program that promises to showcase the breadth and depth of contemporary animated film. The Annecy Festival remains a pivotal platform for animators globally, offering a unique opportunity to experience the latest trends, innovations, and artistic expressions within the animation community. Further announcements regarding the Official Selection, including graduation films, TV and commissioned films, VR works, and feature films, are scheduled for release in the coming months, ensuring a comprehensive and diverse lineup for the 2024 festival.
