Sundance Film Festival CDMX 2024 Unveils Inaugural Program

The Sundance Film Festival CDMX 2024, a collaboration between Cinépolis, the leading theatrical exhibition company in Mexico and Latin America, and the Sundance Institute, is set to launch its first edition from April 25th to 28th. This inaugural event will be hosted at Cinépolis Diana and Cinépolis VIP Miyana, with additional screenings at Cinépolis VIP Perisur, Cinépolis VIP Mitikah, and Cinépolis VIP Satélite. The festival aims to showcase a total of 12 feature films along with six Mexican short films, introducing a wide array of stories and independent artists to Mexico City's audiences.

The selection of films includes notable titles such as "In The Summers," which garnered the Grand Jury Prize for U.S. Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival 2024, and "Daughters," awarded both the Audience Award: U.S. Documentary and Festival Favorite Award. Other films in the lineup include "Your Monster," "Love Lies Bleeding," and the Oscar-winning documentary "20 Days in Mariupol" for Best Documentary Feature. The opening night will feature "FRIDA," a documentary by Carla Gutiérrez, which explores the life and art of Frida Kahlo through her own words and is celebrated with the Jonathan Oppenheim Editing Award for U.S. Documentary at Sundance 2024.

Additionally, a curated program of six Mexican short films will be presented, showcasing the diverse talents and stories from Mexico that have been recognized at previous Sundance Film Festivals. These shorts include titles like "Al Motociclista no le Cabe la Felicidad en su Traje," "La Odisea Espeleológica de Sócrates," and "Chica de Fábrica," among others.

Eugene Hernandez, Director of the Sundance Film Festival and Public Programming, expressed enthusiasm for the lineup, noting the originality and creativity of the new filmmakers. Alejandro Ramírez, Cinépolis CEO, highlighted the festival as a convergence point for creativity, innovation, and exploration in independent cinema.

Tickets for the Sundance Film Festival CDMX 2024 will be available from April 15th on the Cinépolis official website and its app, as well as at the box offices of the participating Cinépolis VIP cinemas. Prices are set at $105 MXN for traditional screenings and $210 MXN for VIP screenings.
